Reviewer verdict

Across 34 YouTube reviews, the Meze Audio 99 Classics V2 earns an Index score of 3.8/5, ranking #41 among Over-Ear Headphones. Reviewers most often praise its sound quality, build quality, comfort, while the most common criticisms concern sound quality, comfort.

Reviewers consistently praise the Meze 99 Classics V2 for their exquisite, premium build quality, featuring real walnut wood earcups and metal hardware. Comfort is another major highlight, with many citing the lightweight design, plush earpads, and self-adjusting headband as suitable for long listening sessions. The V2's sound is considered a significant improvement, offering a more balanced, clear, and detailed presentation with tighter bass and better imaging than the original. They are very easy to drive from any source, and the generous accessory bundle—often including two cables, a hard case, and a USB-C DAC dongle—adds to their strong overall value. Furthermore, the fully serviceable, no-glue construction ensures excellent longevity, allowing for easy repairs and parts replacement.

The V2's shift to a brighter, more neutral sound signature is a common criticism, as many feel it loses the fun, bass-forward warmth of the original. This updated tuning can introduce sharpness or fatigue for some listeners, especially in the upper-mids and treble during extended use. While foam inserts are included to recreate a warmer sound, they are often seen as a flawed compromise that can make the audio sound muffled or veiled. Additionally, despite general comfort, some users with larger ears find the earpads shallow, leading to discomfort as their ears press against the inside of the cups.
