Comfort and Fit

Reviewer verdict

Pros Cons Index analysed 35 YouTube video reviews of the Apple AirPods 5: it earns an Index score of 3.8/5, ranking #58 among True Wireless Earbuds. Reviewers most often praise its controls and features, noise cancellation, battery life, while the most common criticisms concern noise cancellation, comfort and fit.

Pros: AirPods 5 deliver surprisingly strong open-fit sound and much improved ANC with deep bass, long battery, and rich Apple ecosystem features at an accessible price.

AirPods 5 bring pro-level features to an open-fit design: noticeably fuller, controlled bass, clear vocals and non-fatiguing highs, plus adaptive/custom EQ and personalized spatial audio. ANC is significantly improved over the previous generation for an open-ear bud, and battery life and fast charging are better—especially on the wireless-case model which also adds swipe volume, Find My speaker and Apple Watch wireless charging. Comfortable, compact buds and case, solid call mics, H2-powered smart features (live translation, Siri AI, seamless Apple pairing) and an IP57 rating make them a strong value for iPhone users.

Cons: The open-ear fit is hit-or-miss: some users experience poor fit, inconsistent sound/ANC, and missing Pro-level features unless you pay more.

Many criticisms center on the non-sealing open-ear design: fit varies by ear and can lead to buds feeling loose or falling out, which undermines ANC, bass consistency and stem swipe use. The cheaper model omits wireless charging and stem volume control, while ANC still can't match sealed Pro earbuds and some reviewers found tuning peaky or mid-recessed without EQ. Other downsides include modest battery gains, region-limited AI features, no included cable, and feature segmentation that forces a small upcharge for the fuller experience.
