Reviewer verdict
Across 12 YouTube reviews, the ZVOX AV157 earns an Index score of 4.1/5, ranking #34 among Soundbars. Reviewers most often praise its features, sound quality, ease of use, while the most common criticisms concern sound quality, connectivity.
The ZVOX AV157 is overwhelmingly praised for its patented AccuVoice and SuperVoice technologies, which use hearing aid-like processing to lift dialogue out of background noise, making speech crystal clear. With up to 12 customizable levels of voice enhancement, it's particularly effective for viewers who are hard of hearing or struggle with mumbled dialogue, reducing the need for captions. Reviewers consistently celebrate its simplicity, featuring a one-cable, plug-and-play setup that avoids the complexity of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Its compact, unobtrusive design fits easily into any space, and bonus features like output leveling to tame loud commercials and virtual surround sound modes provide significant value for its specific purpose of improving voice intelligibility.
The primary criticisms of the ZVOX AV157 focus on its limited connectivity and lack of audio immersion. Many reviewers noted the complete absence of modern inputs like HDMI ARC and wireless options such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, restricting its use to direct optical or analog connections and preventing wireless streaming. While excellent for dialogue, its audio performance is not designed for a cinematic experience. The soundstage is described as distinctly front-facing, failing to produce the immersive, room-filling effect of a true surround sound system. Additionally, its bass is considered modest compared to larger soundbars, especially those with a dedicated subwoofer.
