Reviewer verdict

Across 17 YouTube reviews, the ADATA Legend 970 Gen5 SSD earns an Index score of 3.8/5, ranking #50 among SSDs. Reviewers most often praise its performance, power consumption, features, while the most common criticisms concern performance, features.

The ADATA Legend 970 SSD is widely praised for its Gen5 performance, with reviewers repeatedly noting read/write speeds around the 10,000 MB/s range and very high 4K IOPS (mentions in 73 pros). Many reviewers say it outperforms most Gen4 drives and delivers impressive sustained and benchmark results, with several specific notes about strong CrystalDiskMark and real-world consistency. Reviewers also frequently commend its cooling solution and low operating temperatures (24 mentions), and highlight the active dual-layer aluminum heatsink with a small fan and other feature details (16 mentions). A number of reviewers additionally call out good value for the observed performance relative to price (8 mentions).

Criticisms center on thermal and practical trade-offs despite the speed, with many reviewers warning that without proper cooling the drive can thermal throttle and show performance drops (21 cons on performance and multiple cons on power/thermals). The bundled active fan implementation drew repeated complaints: it requires a SATA power cable, runs at full speed with no PWM control and can be noticeably loud (11 cons on features), and the included cable and aesthetic choices were criticized (form factor cons). Reviewers also raised durability and warranty concerns related to the controller and cable robustness, and some noted that real-world gains over Gen4 are limited for typical users.
