Reviewer verdict

Across 20 YouTube reviews, the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM earns an Index score of 3.9/5, ranking #13 among Lenses. Reviewers most often praise its build quality, focal length/range, image quality, while the most common criticisms concern image quality, build quality.

Reviewers universally praise this lens as an exceptional workhorse, primarily due to its highly versatile 24-105mm focal range that covers everything from wide landscapes to medium telephoto portraits. This adaptability makes it an ideal all-in-one solution for travel, events, and walk-around shooting, reducing the need to carry multiple lenses. Its professional L-series build quality ensures durability and weather sealing for reliable performance. The lens delivers sharp, high-quality images suitable for professional work, complemented by an effective optical image stabilization system that allows for crisp handheld shots at slower shutter speeds. Coupled with fast, quiet autofocus and a relatively compact design, it represents excellent value for photographers and videographers.

The most significant drawback is the constant f/4 maximum aperture, which limits its capabilities in low-light scenarios and provides less subject-background separation compared to faster f/2.8 zooms or prime lenses. This can be a creative constraint for those seeking significant background blur for portraits. Additionally, the lens features an external zoom design where the barrel extends, which can be a concern for dust ingress and can disrupt balance when used on a gimbal. While generally sharp, some reviewers note it doesn't match the ultimate optical performance of premium primes, exhibiting some softness at the corners, particularly at 24mm.
