Reviewer verdict

Across 24 YouTube reviews, the Yamaha RX-V685 earns an Index score of 4.5/5, ranking #13 among AV Receivers. Reviewers most often praise its features, connectivity, sound quality, while the most common criticisms concern value for money, connectivity.

The Yamaha RX-V685 is widely praised for its extensive feature set and modern video/audio format support, with reviewers repeatedly noting HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG), 4K/60 passthrough and Dolby Atmos/DTS:X capabilities (mentioned across many reviews). Many reviewers also highlight strong connectivity and multiroom streaming via MusicCast, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay and support for major streaming services, as well as generous I/O including multiple HDMI inputs and dual HDMI outputs. Sound quality and power get consistent positive mentions, with multiple reviewers describing clear, punchy, three‑dimensional sound suitable for home theater and music. Reviewers additionally appreciate value for money and ease of setup, noting good built quality, YPAO/auto calibration and a user‑friendly app/remote in a substantial portion of reviews.

Criticisms are far fewer but recurring: several reviewers feel the RX‑V685 is not a major upgrade over predecessors and question its price positioning compared with rivals. Some users point to limited HDMI input counts for their needs and occasional wireless/setup finickiness when using MusicCast or wireless surrounds. A minority mention that immersive surround height effects can be less convincing (especially with only front upward‑firing speakers) and that the user interface/menus can be unintuitive or overwhelming for some users.
