Reviewer verdict

Across 19 YouTube reviews, the Ascaso Steel DUO PID earns an Index score of 4/5, ranking #44 among Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines. Reviewers most often praise its features, brew quality, design/aesthetics, while the most common criticisms concern features, ease of use.

The Steel DUO PID is widely praised for its feature set and control, with many reviewers (91 mentions) highlighting the PID temperature control, dual thermoblock/dual-boiler design allowing simultaneous brewing and steaming, programmable volumetrics/pre-infusion and a 58mm commercial-style portafilter. Reviewers also frequently note strong build and design (30 mentions on aesthetics, 22 on durability) — stainless/metal construction, walnut/wood accents, and a solid-feeling portafilter — plus fast heat-up and recovery from the thermoblocks (21 mentions). Shot quality and temperature stability receive consistent positive comments (35 mentions), with many saying it produces tasty, repeatable espresso and capable microfoam for latte art. Overall reviewers commonly call it feature-packed, well-built, and good value for its market positioning (16 mentions).

Criticisms center on steaming power and thermoblock limitations (33 cons on features and multiple notes about slower or less powerful steam), with reviewers repeatedly saying steam performance can be inconsistent or weaker than boiler-driven commercial machines and that full power may require a 20A circuit. Ease-of-use and ergonomics draw frequent complaints (26 mentions), including unintuitive menus, awkward drip-tray and reservoir access, small or awkward included baskets/tamper, and a learning curve for controls and volumetrics. Some reviewers also report brew-related limitations (16 mentions) such as short/limited pre-infusion, susceptibility to channeling, and temperature/shot variance tied to the thermoblock design. A few users mention noise, pricing, and minor durability/finish concerns but these appear less common than the steaming, usability, and brew-control issues.

  • one downside of this steam lever is it makes the machine really tall i can't remember the exact spec but my cabinets at home are around 16 to 17 inches and i had to have his steam lever kind of sticking out from above my from in front of my upper cabinets because this wouldn't fit and if i brought it down i didn't want to risk having the steam one accidentally dripping out causing the drip tray to overflow so it is a big machine it's definitely a heavy machine i'd say it's up there with the linea mini or the r91 or the prima in terms of weight these are all very bulky large machines ▶ Ascaso Baby T | Commercial Crew Review @ 3:30
  • not a massive espresso machine, medium footprint that will require a decent amount of counter space ▶ The ENDGAME Home Espresso Machine? Ascaso Steel DUO Plus Rev @ 2:39
