The TV has a new USBC input you can use as an alternate display port for PC gaming. Unlike devices connected through HDMI, you can use motion interpolation in PC/Game mode when using it. Cons (61)

Other (29)

Its HDR image is also pretty accurate, although far from perfect. The TV's color temperature is very close to the 6500K target, but there are notable inaccuracies in most shades of gray. As for color accuracy, most colors are off the mark, so shades aren't accurate. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 2:39
But at that 60 Hz, pretty high. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 7:01
It's a good thing it's so bright because its direct reflection handling is just all right. It does lessen the intensity of direct light sources, but they're still very visible on screen. Yeah, in well-lit scenes, this won't matter as the TV is so bright, but in darker content, you'll see those lamps. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 4:10
Oh, and if you game at 60 Hz, pixel transitions are slow here, too, with blurry motion and noticeable persistence blur. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 6:47
this TV's viewing angle is okay. It's not terrible for an LED TV, but there's some color wash out, color and gamma shifting, and brightness loss, and it happens pretty fast at about 20° offaxis. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 5:06
Sadly, the positives end here when it comes to accuracy. This TV's HDR brightness accuracy is wildly off. This is actually one of the least accurate TVs we've ever tested for PQEF tracking. Everything is drastically brighter than intended, so it really doesn't stay true to the content creators intent at all. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 2:57
This TV's HDR native gradient would be great if not for its bright greens, which show noticeable banding. Otherwise, you'd be hardressed to spot any. Although, if you look real close, you'll still see some in grays, blues, bright reds, and dark greens. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 5:53
when we were gaming or in some darker content the brightness level seemed to dim quite a bit ▶ Hisense or TCL or Neither? @ 7:25
only goes 55 up to 75 so you don't have an 85 or even a 98 inch option with this ▶ Hisense or TCL or Neither? @ 7:48
It's also pretty accurate in SDR, although far from perfect. There's too much blue and not enough red and brighter grays, which makes this TV's color temperature too cold. While our gamma is close to our 2.2 target, most scenes are displayed a bit darker than they should be. As for color accuracy, it's great overall, but there are some inaccuracies in whites, light cyans, and light magentas. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 4:38
The TV has three HDMI 2.1 ports. Yeah, that's one less port than last year, but last year we had two HDMI 2.1s and two HDMI 2.0 ports. Now we have three HDMI 2.1 ports. Depending on your setup, this is either a win or a loss. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 8:02
It's almost too good as it ends up losing some fine details in the process. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 5:33
VRR doesn't work when using it. And 1080p at 288 Hz doesn't work either. The port maxes out at 165 Hz at all supported resolutions. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 7:49
there are issues. First, those pixel transitions are kind of slow, especially sadly at 165 Hz. Fast motion looks blurry, and you'll see some black smearing when transitioning from black states. It's better at 120 Hz with motion being decidedly less blurry. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 6:24

the only drawback and it's becoming a regular thing now with TV manufacturers is the use of intrusive advertising banners within the smart TV system ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 4:56

in dim surroundings or blacked out rooms the blacks are raised and they do look gray this is most noticeable in the black bars of cinemascope films but less noticeable in bright viewing rooms ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 8:31
we can best describe the sound is serviceable so if you want better you'll need to add a sound bar or an external sound system ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 3:15
obvious dirty screen effect dsse when watching content like football where you have the camera panning over a green pitch which occupies a large area of the image ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 6:14
we did see some softness and image artifacts from time to time with over thee broadcasts ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 7:24
The local Demming also introduces blooming suppression which means that the specular highlight details are dimmed down to avoid blooming artifact facts around them ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 5:52
SD channels were less successful as no amount of processing will ever save that type of content from looking soft and fuzzy ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 7:14
not a TV to be used in a dark room for critical movie viewing due to the technical constraints of the technology being used since those results in side effects becoming much more prominent and visible when you're watching in the dark ▶ Hisense U8N TV Review: The BEST Hisense Mini LED TV? @ 8:53

Picture Quality (20)

there is a little bit of Shadow Crush going on and it's definitely more noticeable in the HDR test where you can see that a significant amount of Shadow detail here was being crushed ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 5:50
because it's not using a true glossy finish it appears to be somewhat of a semi gloss this can introduce some very minor blur to the overall image nowhere near as bad as a mat coating but not quite as clear as a true gloss ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 8:55
it's not going to Dethrone OLED oled's always going to have the best picture quality ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 0:23
blooming can be an issue on this TV as with just roughly 1,300 local dimming zones it quite frankly does not have enough dimming zones to effectively suppress all blooming you will see it from time to time in the form of potential haloing around objects in a very dark scene when the object is bright or inverse dimming if it's trying to control it and reduce the blooming something that OLED just simply doesn't suffer from ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 6:54
I do think it falls a little bit short of the saturation you can get out of Cu OLED ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 3:09
it still can have some issues depending on what you're viewing because it appears to be BGR which is not the typical red green blue that you would expect or something like Windows would expect when displaying text ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 8:38
it's not perfect it is going to have poor viewing angles leading to a washed out or desaturated image at significant angles ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 9:23
the motion performance isn't that great now it's certainly not terrible at 144 htz it's definitely very usable but when you compare it to something like OLED well it's just no match especially for a super fast OLED like 480 HZ but even a lower refresh rate OLED is going to look far clearer in motion than this mini LED which as you can see in the darker scenes has quite a bit of dark smearing likely due to the VA panel ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 7:58
even if the leading edge of quick moving objects is visibly dimmer than the rest of it. ▶ Hisense U8QG Review - Extreme Brightness, Extreme Tradeoffs @ 2:10
it's going to fall short to the million to one or infinite to one that an OLED can produce meaning it won't have quite the same amount of detail as you can get in small objects on an OLED TV ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 6:36
my specific unit did have some very very tiny probably mostly unnoticeable diagonal scan lines on certain gradients ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 10:23
that's not necessarily the case in actual HDR content depending on what you view because even in this High APL scene that's going distress OLED to its Max it actually technically fell behind the s95 c and the LG G4 which means at times the best oleds can technically appear slightly brighter in parts of the scene than this mini LED TV ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 5:05
it does also unfortunately suffer from some dirty screen effect ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 9:34
it can introduce some soap opera effect which may or may not be a turnoff for some buyers ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 7:26
it will have its faults such as the slow response times the worse viewing angles and of course it's not going to have the micro contrast of OLED either ▶ I Might Ditch OLED For Mini LED - Hisense 85U8N Review @ 11:26
